Intraocular Pressure Measurement – Contactless Tonometry (Canon)
The examination is quick, painless and non-contact, using a gentle stream of air directed by the device onto the surface of the eye. It takes only a few seconds and requires no preparation.
The Canon tonometer is a modern device for measuring intraocular pressure, which is crucial in diagnosing and monitoring glaucoma.
The examination is quick, painless, and contactless – the device directs a gentle puff of air onto the surface of the eye. It takes only a few seconds and requires no preparation. The test may be slightly surprising due to the gentle air puff, but it is not painful.
The Canon tonometer also measures corneal thickness (pachymetry), allowing it to calculate the corrected intraocular pressure. This is important because the actual eye pressure can be influenced by whether the cornea is thinner or thicker than average. By combining pressure measurement and pachymetry, we obtain more accurate and reliable results – especially important for patients being monitored for glaucoma.
